A
leading manufacturer of corrugated boxes,
this Plant City company contacted Southern
Power & Controls when the development of
their state-of-the-art facility fell into
a state of confusion, schedule delays and
poor workmanship.
Challenge:
It was obvious that someone
with experience needed to take charge of
the situation. This was to be the most automated,
efficient, high capacity corrugated box
plant in the world - the first of its kind.
To start, a project plan was established.
A new physical layout of the installation,
with detailed schematics, was produced.
Parts and materials, found in all corners
of the plant, were inventoried and organized.
Previous work was evaluated and anything
not up to SPC standards was removed.
The
hand-picked SPC team began the project by
laying the underground conduit required
for the corrugator machine, which was the
focal point of the installation. The supporting
processes were fanned out, in a logical
sequence to support the flow of materials
and labor and provide for a safe, clean
and attractive workspace. Finally, the control
systems were tied together and tested. The
installation set new standards for corrugated
box manufacturing, but most importantly,
exceeded the expectations of the Willamatte
management and staff.
SPC
was able to perform in this situation because
of the shared experience and values of their
team members. They are eager to take responsibility
for an assignment and be held accountable
for the work that is performed. While many
contractors preach the quality message,
the SPC team takes special pride in their
work - and you can see the difference. Their
craftsmanship is exhibited in the graceful
arcs and symmetrical lines of wiring, cabling
and conduit. Control panels and diagrams
easily interpreted. Start-up and recovery
procedures defined and taught to the plant
staff. Standards that are not compromised.
Ever.
Epilogue:
The contracting policies
and conduct displayed by SPC were instituted
for all of the contractors and trades supporting
the Willamatte engineering team. In fact,
SPC was asked to create purchasing and inventory
management protocols for security and cost
containment.
